– The telecoms industry is crucial for economic recovery and for opening up EU’s internal market, contributing to sustainable economic growth in Europe. Swedish MEP Gunnar Hökmark said at a breakfast debate in the European Parliament on ”How to attain the broadband goals of the European Digital Agenda”.
”The expected EU membership of Croatia , once the country meets all the criteria, will reinforce the credibility of the EU enlargement policy. Croatia has so far demonstrated that strict application of membership criteria can be a strong incentive for reform and this model can serve as an example for other countries in the region to follow.” This is the main message of EPP Vice-Chairman Gunnar Hökmark (SE), Chairman of the EU-Croatia Joint Parliamentary Committee, in preparation of the next meeting with Croatian parliamentarians in Zagreb on 29-30 March.

This week the European Commission presented its 10-year strategy for reviving the European economy. At a European Movement seminar on the Europe 2020 Strategy in the premises of the Czech Permanent Representation to the EU, Swedish MEP Gunnar Hökmark, Chairman of the EPP working group on Economic Policy, said that:
– Reforms aimed at stimulating stable economic growth are the only way forward if we are to achieve the ambitious political goals for European progress towards 2020 set out this week by the European Commission.
