– The telecoms industry is crucial for economic recovery and for opening up EU’s internal market, contributing to sustainable economic growth in Europe. Swedish MEP Gunnar Hökmark said at a breakfast debate in the European Parliament on ”How to attain the broadband goals of the European Digital Agenda”.
– Investments in fixed lines and the future use of the digital dividend are central aspects of Europe’s future digital agenda. Fixed lines can secure the capacity to develop new services and the spectrum that will be released in the coming years has great potential to increase broadband penetration rates, especially in rural areas.
– Innovation drives technological evolution at a speed which we can not foresee. We therefore must ensure that todays political decisions do not hinder tomorrows innovations, concluded Gunnar Hökmark.
