Croatia: end of negotiations to join EU in the first half of 2011 a sound possibility.

  • av

gunnar3”Both for the EU and for the region, it is important that the conditionality linked to a credible EU enlargement process remains a strong incentive for reform. In this sense, the Croatian case is very important for regional dynamics because it can swing the doors wide open for the rest of the region. The goal is to have mutually cooperating countries of the Western Balkans inside the EU. We also expect that Croatia, as a Member State, will be actively contributing to EU policy in the region” emphasized Gunnar Hökmark MEP, Vice-Chairman of the EPP Group, at the 12th meeting of the EU-Croatia Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) which Mr Hökmark co-chaired with Croatian MP, Marija Pejčinović-Burić.Läs mer »Croatia: end of negotiations to join EU in the first half of 2011 a sound possibility.

In this context let me mention that the EPP Group will organise a high-profile conference on South East Europe in November. Today’s visit and exchange of views with Mr Manaj was not only an update on the situation of Kosovo at the international level, but we also discussed in detail the actions of the Kosovo Government regarding minority rights and the protection of the culture, language and identity of ethnic minorities. We follow this development closely.
