Increased funding for competitive universities

EPP”The European Coal and Steel Community has been indispensable for the integration and creation of today’s European Union. It is now time for the EU to transform into a new Community for Science and Technology. At the heart of this new challenge stand European universities and research institutions,” said Gunnar Hökmark MEP and Vice-Chairman of the EPP Group at today’s launch of Atomium Culture’s report on Research an Innovation – 2020.

”Research and development must be an integral part of the EU’s internal market with full mobility for researchers and students. Globally competitive European universities and successful cutting edge research projects should be able to attract increased financing and more researchers,” said Hökmark.

”If Europe is to attract the best students and researchers from all over the world we must open up for competition between European universities. Better cooperation, greater independence and more financing, from both private and public sector, are all crucial ingredients to encourage new centres of excellence in Europe,” Hökmark concluded.

Atomium Culture brings together some of the most authoritative European universities, newspapers and businesses in the first permanent platform for European excellence for a reliable, transparent, and efficient area for the dissemination and exchange of new knowledge.
