European Economic Recovery Plan

The proposed actions have been negotiated and put forward together with the ALDE-group and will initially be discussed in next weeks Economic Committee meetings in Strasbourg.

The first and main priority in fighting the economic crisis is to get the financial and credit markets to function again, making it possible for industry and households to borrow. Giving stability to the system of European banks is of utmost importance not the least to SMEs that are especially squeezed in the credit crunch.

– We will give the highest priority to securing the stability and function of the credit markets, this being a precondition for all other efforts stimulating the economy by investments in infrastructure and research as well as lower wage costs and lower taxes for low- income households, MEP Hökmark summarizes.
