Ahead of the 4th EU-Georgia Parliamentary Association Committee meeting on 15-16 February in Strasbourg, Gunnar Hökmark underlined the importance of media plurality and expressed concerns of adverse effects on medial pluriality in the case of the independent television channel Rustavi 2.
Moreover, Gunnar Hökmark urged the Georgian authorities to fully respect the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights on the case of the jailed opposition leader and former Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili, and expressed hope for meaningful investigation of all acts of violence against political opposition in the 2016 election campaign.
