Today Gunnar Hökmark, together with 16 other Members of the European Parliament sent a letter to Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia, underlining concern regarding the ownership dispute of the independent TV channel Rustavi2.
“It is a big achievement that we today have reached broad support for the letter to the Georgian Government, expressing our concern regarding the ongoing pressure on Rustavi2 and welcoming the decision of the European Court of Human Rights to suspend the enforcement of the decision of the Supreme Court of Georgia. Freedom of speech and independence of media is the cornerstone of a European society, and it is important that the Georgian Government respect this.” said Gunnar Hökmark.
