The EPP Political Assembly has approved the resolution on EU’s single market which was put forward by the EPP working group on economic policy. It’s chairman Gunnar Hökmark made the following remarks at the EPP Political Assembly:
• With over 70% of the EU’s GDP being dependent on services it is now time to rise to the challenge and take a quantum leap in tackling administrative obstacles and lacking enforcement of the EU law, in particular with regard to the Services Directive.
• The institutions should agree on a binding calendar and concrete measures for enforcing the Single Market legislation
• We call on the European Commission to swiftly bring forward a proposal to overcome the remaining obstacles for the application of the Service Directive applicable to all sectors
• Building a European Digital Single Market is crucial since it can be a driver for 201 competitiveness and economic growth, providing highly-qualified jobs.
This resolution will now be finally approved by the EPP congress in Bucharest which will take place on 16-17 October.
