– Removing obstacles to the Internal Market and opening up EU’s borders is the best way to create a thriving and competitive European Industry, said EPP Group Vice-Chairman Gunnar Hökmark, in view of the amendments he has tabled to the Industry committee’s report on an industrial policy for the globalised era.
– EU’s industrial policy must be based on free markets and fair pre-conditions for competition, enabling more entrepreneurs and small companies to grow and develop into companies operating all over Europe. The opportunities for new emerging industries with high growth potential must not be limited by old and outdated industries.
– Crisis measures such as sectoral aid should be phased out as soon as possible. Europe needs more effective and transparent application of state aid rules, establishing exit strategies for any new government ownership, concluded Hökmark
