At today’s meeting of the Working Group on Economic Policy of the European People’s Party (EPP), which was chaired by Gunnar Hökmark, MEP, EPP Vice President, the participants reiterated the necessity of transforming the European economy into a global competitive knowledge economy.
The EPP working group on Economic Policy highlighted:
”Research and innovation, especially centres of excellences and frontier research, are crucial for stimulating economic growth, making Europe more competitive and accelerating Europe’s transformation into a knowledge society”
”In today’s global world, emerging economies offering economies of scale and rapid innovation, are securing jobs and sustainable growth with new investments and capital. If Europe is to develop its competitiveness and take the global lead, we must focus our energies on looking ahead and creating policies that facilitate the emergence of a knowledge society”
The EPP working group on Economic Policy will conclude its work in September 2011 and the final resolution will be adopted by the EPP congress in Marseille, December 2011.
