The Commission has launched its Country specific recommendations for 2017.
GDP growth in the EU as a whole is expected to remain constant at 1.9%. Unemployment is expected to fall but it remains high in many countries.
Gunnar Hökmark MEP (EPP) is rapporteur in European Parliament for the European Semester-package.
– The growth is continuing at a positive pace but it remains weak and uneven between Member States. EU and its Member States need to act in order to achieve higher growth and to increase our competitiveness. I therefore welcome the recommendations from Commission on the need for structural reforms. Labour market reforms are necessary in the Member States in order to achieve higher employment, says Gunnar Hökmark.
