Today Gunnar Hökmark and 60 other parlamentarians and security experts send a letter to the President of the European Commission, Jean Claude Juncker, and the High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, calling for more resources to countering the threat of disinformation campaigns, in particular from Russia. The EEAS East StratCom Task Force should be provided with 30 additional experts with various language and specialist skills, and an annual budget of at least 15 million EUR in order to fulfill its mandate. More over, Russia must be singled out and analysed as the main foreign source of hostile disinformation activities against the EU and its values.
”This is an important step in order to highlight the pressing security concerns of foreign disinformation campaigns and to take precautionary action against pro-Kremlin propaganda. The Commission and the EEAS need to act now”, said Gunnar Hökmark.
